Treetop and KM Packaging introduces bio-based compostable cling film

Treetop Biopak and Km Packaigng have introduced C-Cling, a cling film that the company says is home compostable and can be used for applications including catering and retail.

C-Cling is clear, stretchy, and sticky, offering the same performance as conventional clingfilm. Developed in partnership with Treetop Biopak as part of the bioplastics C-range, the companies claim C-Cling is made from bio-based renewable while being home-compostable.

As well as home usage, the C-Cling can be used for high-volume industrial packaging of fruits and vegetables and other fresh produce, and partnered with compostable trays to create a complete packaging solution. The company adds that the flexible film is suitable for daily usage within catering businesses, storing and transporting food safely, protecting and preserving the quality and taste of food in retail environments, and secondary packaging such as pallet wrapping.

Amir Gross, owner of Treetop, comments: “C-Cling can be used on an industrial scale for the wrapping of multiple products and is particularly helpful when the trays are also compostable.”

C-Cling film complies with EC food-contact Regulations 1935/2004 and 10/2011. It also complies with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1630, provided it is used subject to certain advised limitations and in good manufacturing practices.

Other items in the C-range include C-Shrink, a shrink film that is reportedly home compostable and suitable for packaging vegetables, bakery, and other foodstuffs alongside bundling multi-packs and as a secondary wrap for packed goods. Additionally, C-Tape is an industrially compostable adhesive tape that is made from bio-based sources and natural gum, according to the company.
